FLOODS IN NORTH.

ROADS UNDER WATER. HEAVY RAIN AND HIGH WIND. KAITAIA, Sept. 24. Continuous heavy rain, accompanied by a high wind from the east, has been experienced over all parts of the .Ear North last night and to-day, and fivers are in flood and roads blocked. Records in different parts vary, from 2in. for the 24 hours to nearly 4in. Although the rain eased late this afternoon it is falling heavily again this evening and the rivers are still rising. It is anticipated, that before morning the flood waters will be higher than any experienced during the past few years. Reports from headwaters of the rivers past Kaitaia indicate that heavy rain is still falling and the rivers are in high flood. In some districts the floods are already higher than they have been for. some tiiiie. In attempting to negotiate the Lake Ohia route from Awanui to Mangamuta this afternoon, two commercial travellers had the misfortune to run their ear into about 4ft. of water, and before they , could be pulled out their samples and clothing were wet through. Heavy, rain commenced in Wliangarei during last night , and continued throughout to-day,, nearly an inch being registered up to nine o’clock this morning. The downpour was accompanied by a strong northeasterly wind. If the rain continues throughout the night, there is every indication of a heavy flood to-morrow. The wind is still blowing strongly from the north-east.

Reports from country districts indicate extensive flooding. Water is over the road at Hukerunui, and traffic is blocked near the hotel. Several cars seeking to go north had to return to Whangarei to-night. The water is over all the low-lying - paddocks, and it is still raining heavily. Milne Flat, at Kawakawa, is under water to a depth of about 18in and at Gbodhue bridge the water, was a foot deep over the road at dusk. Traffic was still getting through, however. Paddocks at Kawakawa. are under water, but the rain this evening is not so heavy as during the day. Heavy rain fell at Ka'eo all day, and. this evening tho water is over the road at the northern and southern sides of the town. The mall car got through to. Kaeo, but owing to the flooding of the road near the Whangaroa dairy factory, all traffic further north is held up.
