BEQUEST TO SCHOOL.
ESTATE OVER £22,000. GIFT BY ARCHDEACON. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Sept. 26. A very large contingent bequest, consisting of the whole of the testator’s Now Zealand estate, valued conservatively at over £22,000, lias been made to the Auckland Diocesan Girls’ High School by the late Veil. R. H. Cole, formerly archdeacon of Taranaki, who died in Auckland in September, 1934. The bequest is subject to the life interest of the archdeacon’s daughters and to another 1 contingency, the possibilities in regard to which cannot be ascertained lor some considerable time. If this contingency does not materialise the school will ultimately receive a very valuable addition to its resources. Archdeacon Cole made no stipulations as to the use that may be made of the bequest, but expressed the wish that the school council should apply a sum annually, whenever practicable, towards the maintenance and education of the daughters of poor clergy actively engaged in the dioceses of Auckland and Waikato, Archdeacon Cole had completed 50 years in the Anglican ministry at the time of his death. From 1903 until 1912, when he retired on account of illhealth, he was archdeacon of Taranaki.
