MANAWATU SEAT.
MR lIORNBLOAV AT SHANNON. Mr J. K. Hornblow gave a speech outlining his policy as a National candidate at Shannon last night. Various deputations waited upon him to which lie indicated liis proposals regarding the activity of educational movements, harbour boards, power boards, and hospital boards. He said he had no grievance against Mr Linklater. The time had arrived when a local member living in the district should represent it. it was obvious that the right type of man should have courage and faith and be qualified, and that lie should not he a mere automaton. The speaker had no desire to seek Parliamentary honours as a professional politician. Things had drifted in that district while others had benefited, the district not getting grants from the Government it desired. He asked that his name along with Mr Linklater s be submitted to a representative committee lor selection, it was a sporting oiler that .should not be refused, he added. Because a member had been in Parliament for a number of years that did not give him perpetuity of the seat. He did not think that the heads of the Government should interfere in this matter.
The speaker criticised certain actions of the Government for lavish expenditure on education and health matters. , A motion was canned to the effect that the meeting approved of the conditions of Mr Hornolow’s candidature and lading the compliance of tiie sitting member, Mr Hornblow be accepted as the candidate.
