HOCKEY
MANAWATU GAMES. In the two senior games conducted by the Manawatu Hockey Association at the Hokowliitu. grounds yesterday, Broadway A and Phoenix played a draw, there being no score, and P.D.C. beat Broadway B by 2 goals to 1. Play in the Phoenix-Broadway A match -was fast, with the ground dry and hard, but neither team had the finish necessary to overcome solid defence in the circle. O’Brien for Broadway and Morgan for Phoenix would have scored but for over-eagerness. The umpires were Messrs F. McLacldan and W. H. Wilson. - P.D.C. had a slight territorial advantage in their match with Broadway B. R. Facer and C. Ward scored for P.D.C. and H. Cutler for Broadway. The umpires were Messrs A. E. Blackbourn and L. Martin. JUNIOR TOURNAMENT.
A five-a-side tournament for the junior teams was held at Takaro Park, Massey College A being the winners. Six teams took part, being from the Massey College, Combined Services, Broadway and Phoenix Clubs. At the close of three rounds the points gamed by the teams were as follow: Massey College A 6, Massey College B 6, Combined Services 4, Broadway A 2, Broadway B 0, Phoenix 0. In the playoff between the two Massey College teams the A team proved the winners by 3 goals to 1. The individual results of the three rounds were as follow: First round.—Massey College B 2 v. Combined Services 1; Massey College A 7 v. Broadway B 0; Broadway A 2 v. Phoenix 1. Second round.—Massey College A 6 v. Broadway A 1; Massey College B 6 v. Phoenix 0; Combined Services 2 v. Broadway 80. Third round.—Massey College B a v. Broadway B 0; Combined Services 2 v. Phoenix 0; Massey College A 6 v. Broadway A 0. The umpires were Alessrs H. Byers, V. Wallis, W. Inkpen and D. Wilton. Messrs N. Hanson and E. H. Smith were in charge of the tournament.
