TITLED WOMAN CHARGED.
WORTHLESS CHEQUES CASE.
WORKING AS SECRETARY,
Received September 25, 11.10 a.m. LONDON, Sept. 24. In opening an adjourned charge of passing worthless cheques against Lady Esther Makgill, aged 30, the prosecutor said that 212 of her cheques had been referred to the drawer. Such a long history of worthless cheques was impossible without a certain amount of charm and distinction. Since the summons all except one firm had been paid. Giving evidence in defence, Lady Makgill said she became friendly with a man now aoioad, who got £41)00 from “I admit I was careless beyond words, having a comfortable feeling teat; my mends would meet my liabilities. I am now working as a secretary at £5 a week,” she said. The case was adjourned.
