(From Our Own Correspondent.) APITI, Sept. 23. The Awawaro woolshcd presented a colourful and animated scene when the social event of the year took place. Visitors from the surrounding districts were welcomed by the Social Committee, who had spared no effort to make the occasion the success it was. The beautiful decorations which completely, transformed the ■shed were a source of admiration by everyone. Tho walls were covered with native foliage, with huge splashes of daffodils and rhododendrons here and there, while the roof was canopied with orange, scarlet and green streamers. Effective lighting was supplied with hanging lamps and gay Chinese lanterns. The programme consisted of varied old-time and modern dances and was carried out with enthusiasm by the large crowd present. Novelty dances were an added attraction, the prizes for the lucky spot and statue fox-trot being won by Mies M. Gatchell and Air Blakclock. Mr and Mrs A. H. Smith were the winners of tho Monte Carlo, and Mrs L. Smith and Mr G. McCartney carried off the prizes in tho lucky Gay Gordons. Mrs J. Smith, and Messrs H. Gatchell and E. Lewis supplied the music, and Mr T. Bovey was M.C.

Airs R. Jacob, of Ridge Road, is at present an inmate of the Palmerston North Hospital; her friends wish her a speedy recovery. Mr S. Swift was a week-end visitor, to Apiti as the guest of Airs I>. Swift.
