HEALTH CAMPS

LOCAL COMMITTEE FORMED. AVORK FOR CHILDREN. Tlie nucleus of a permanent health camp committee and organisation at this centre, to be officially recognised by the Minister, Avas established yesterday afternoon AVhen, in consequence of the preliminary meeting held a Aveek earlier, a committee was formed to undertake the administration of all funds raised locally for the maintenance of children from this district in health camps. An organised movement is at present in hand throughout NeAv Zealand. Avith a minimum objective of £IO.OOO this year as the proceeds from the health stamp campaign. , There was a good attendance of representatives of local organisations. The Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford) presided, and outlined the steps taken at the last meeting, stating that there could be no tAVo opinions about the efficiency of the health camps. The Chief Postmaster (Mr D. He added that the Minister of Health had intimated that he Avould recognise such bodies, and approve of the money being expended upon eligible children from the hospital district Avhere the funds AA'ere raised. Very feAv children went from the Palmerston North district to the Otaki health camp, said the managing-secre-tary of the Hospital Board (Mr A. J. Phillipps). avlio agreed that there Avas accommodation on a fine site there for 500 children. An offer to purchase 500 health stamps, as well as to provide transport for children and goods during the camp. Avhieh it was suggested should be held at the Aivapuni racecourse, was received by letter from Mr and Mrs_ A. Hopivood, appreciation being expressed of the spirit Ai'hicli had prompted this generosity. Representatives present advised that purchases of stamps would be made as folloAv : —Rotarv Club, 1000 stamps; Lunch Club, £2 Ai’orth : Justices of the Peace Association, £2; Piunlret Society, £2 2s; ToAvnsAvomen’s Guild, £2 2s.

It was announced bv Mr Black that tbe stamps, in special colours, Avould be available from Mondav next, and be added that the little girl represented in the pictorial issue was a daughter of Mr and Mrs S. I. McKenzie, of Palmerston North.

Thanking those avlio had attended for their support, the chairman expressed the opinion that Palmerston North would liave no difficulty in raising its quota under the health stamp campaign. Subsequently the committee met to formulate Avays and means of raising funds and assisting the purchase of health stamps.
