Another meeting organised by a group of Auckland clergymen was held in the Toavii Hall to-night to protest against the unemployment position. Monsignor H. F. Holbrook presided. Tli© speakers included. Rev. AV. W. Averill. . The folloAving motion Avas carried : —* “That this representative meeting of citizens of Auckland is of the opinion that tho tragic failure to discover a practical solution to the conditions of acute distress Avhieh have existed in this favoured country during tlie past five years slioivs conclusively that an effective remedy is to he sought only in a courageous and far-reacliing policy of government; that this meeting hereby urges the Government to take immediate steps to provide an adequate remedy and to restore to the unemployed a just and equitable standard of living that would provide the essentials of decent civilised home life, with the means to enjoy its laivful rights and discharge its necessary obligations; that this meeting affirms its conviction that our faith in God lenders it impossible to believe the present economic situation to be in accoidance with His will, or that it is impossible for it to he so altered as to enable His people to make wiser, juster and more effective use of the increasing productivity of the country.
