(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, Sept. 11. Mrs Slight, one of the oldest residents of tho district, passed away at Paekaka- | riki on Sunday night at the age of 89 ; years. Tho funoral of the late Miss Josephine Tore Turn took place at Otaki yes- . torday, and despite the inclement weather i was well attended. Tho ceremony at the j church and graveside was conducted by ; Rev. Father Riordan. The death occurred 'at Waikanae, yesterday, of Mrs Horace Freeman, one of tho best known residents of the district. She was 71 years of age and leaves a husband and family of four sons to mourn their loss. The death occurred at Paraparaumu on Saturday of Mr George James Langley, aged 74 years. He was well known on this coast and for some time was a resident of Foxton. Mr Langley was hour, in Wellington, and his parents wore pionoors, living at Lowry Bay. He accompanied his parents to the Foxton district as a youth, and later joined his brother as a caterer, and conducted a boarding house at the seaside, subsequently removing to Paraparaumu. Mr Langley was unmarried. Mr Walter Langley and Mrs Arnold (Onehunga) are brother and sister. Heavy rain, which will have a beneficial effect on pastures, fell in Otaki and district yesterday. Unfortunately, however, it was accompanied by a very cold snap. Whitebait have boon very scarce this season but at the week-end small catches were made.

At tho annual meeting of tho Otaki Tennis Club Mr W. M. Simcox presided over a fair attendance of members. The election of officers for the coming season resulted President: Mr W. M. Suneox; vice-presidents, Messrs T. O’Rourke. N. S. Lawrence, H. B. Edhouse, D. Richards, L. G. Lowry and J. McGill ; club captain, Mr T. N. Benge; hon. sceretarj', Mr A. Harper; hon. treasurer, Mr It. Anderson; committee. Mrs Benge, Misses B. Capewell and M. Harper, and Messrs B. Ryder and J. Morgan. •
