TOKOMARU

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TOKOMARU, Sept, 9. A happy evening was spent at the residence of Air and Airs H. Waghorn where a party was held, Mrs G. Murdock being the guest of the evening. The big diningroom was decorated with red and black streamers and balloons, and the sitting-room with orange and blue streamers. The table was prettily decorated with freezias and jonquils. Those who contributed items wore Mrs T. Simpson (vocal, solos). Airs T. Waghorn (recitation), Aliss Molly Campbell (vocal solo), Mrs J. Williams (recitation), Aiiss K. Campbell (recitation), Mrs 13. Hay (recitation). Competitions were won by Aim B. Stokes, Aliss K. Campbell, and Douglas Waghorn. A dainty supper was served in the sitting-room. The happy evening came to a close with the singing of “Au’.d Lang Sync.” The public of-Tokomaru will he pleased, to learn that the Tokomaru basketball girls’ team have won the B grade ebam pionship without losing a match. Wilton (emergency) . The September meeting of the .Tokomaru Women’s Institute was hell in the ball. Airs F. Gy<le presided over a good attendance. Two new members were enrolled Airs T. Simpson and Airs X. Gunning. Airs Clyde took the opportunity to welcome Mrs W. Pope after being away some time through illness, ft wap decided to hod a euchre party and dame later in the month. Airs {'. Osman and Aliss V. Voss arc to be the delegates at the council meeting to be held at Bulls. The afternoon was

spent in games and competitions. Jbe winners of the latter were Airs J. VVeUs (musical parcel), Miss A. Anderson (km** ting), and Airs H. L’arr (candle lighting and paper tearing). Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses—-Airs M. Cor.ett and Mrs W. Pcnticost. The points comiietition for the best pin cushion was won by Airs A. Burt, Mrs H. Parr Knig second, and Airs C. Osman third. Mrs H. Jewell was judge. The hostesses for the October meeting will be Mrs bchaw and Aliss A. Alason. Airs AJoUill and Airs Atkinson are to be in charge of the stall, the articles to cost not more tnan sixpence. The points competition is b>r the best designed institute banner. The demonstration will be papier mache and will be given by Airs Evans, of Levin. Miss R. Free is spending a holiday in Wellington. Airs G. Clark, of Wellington, is the guest of Air E. Stokes. MrsiG. Murdock, of Levin, was the guest of Mrs W r . Waghorn.
