(From Our Own Correspondent.) , , COLYTON, July 16. i lie Colyton School’s annual fancy dress had was held on Friday last in tho local ball. A very large company was present, Iho young folk taking the floor at 7.30, A varied programme was enjoyed by the children, the committee, under the loadership of tho chairman (Mr J. Crook) having spared no effort in providing for their enjoyment. Over 70 took the floor and for the next few hours the adult spectators enjoyed watching tile grand march, polka, velota, flower dance, Cochin China, shoemaker, “Please Be My Partner,” mountain march, scjioltische, “reaping the flux,” “Pop Goes the Weasel,” canoe, reel, basket dance and military two step. The dancing reflected credit on the children's teacher, Mr Mathews, and Mrs Mathews, who assisted. The judges were Mrs Milne and Miss Adsett, of Feilding, and they placed Mary Heap and W. Heap (Indian Squaw and Warrior) first. V. Woodman and T. Bcatson were tho winners of lhe Monto Carlo dance and tho prizes wore presented by Mr F. Bassett. Master T. Bcatson acted as M.C. At the close of tho children's portion of the programme. Mr J. Crook returned the thanks of the coinmittco to those present for their interest in tho function and particularly thanked Mrs T. A. Smith for her valuuble help at thu piano both during that ovening and at tho practices, and as a mark of appreciation a beautiful lwuquet from the school children was presented to her by Freda Allerby. At. the final meeting of tho district ball committee the secretaries presented the balance-sheet which showed n piolit of Llo 15s Bd. It was decided to hand this amount to the hall committee ill aid of thenfunds. Votes of thanks were passed to numerous persons and firms for donations and assistance rendered.
