MANAWATU UNION. SENIOR GAME AT FEILDING. The weekly meeting of the Manawatu Rugby Union was held last night when, in the absence of the president (Mr A. M. Onglev), Mr J. A. C'olquhoun presided. The Terrace End School wrote protesting against the Convent School playing an over-age hoy in the midget competition on Saturday. It was mentioned that this was the third occasion on which the team had transgressed the rules.—The chairman remarked tlint this competition was under the control of the Primary Schools’ Association. The letter was forwarded to that body for a report. The Ashhurst Club wrote stating that it had not played a member by the name of Burgess this season, nor was Burgess in any way connected with the club.—Received, the chairman remarking that it was apparent the information tendered to the union had been incorrect. The Feilding Club wrote withdrawing its junior team from the competition on account of a shortage of players.— Accepted, Mr Crawford expressing the hope that this would not mean applications for ire-grading to third grade. The Kin Toa Club applied for the transfer of J. Corbin from the Kelvin Springboks, a clearance from the latter club being attached.—Granted. The referee of the Bunnythorpe-Te Arnkura junior fixture, on Saturday, reported that owing to .confusion the latter team lmd arrived at the Showgrounds instead of proceeding to Bunnythorpe, and lie had no option but to postpone the match.—lt was decided to play the game later in the season, conditionally oil its affecting the competition. With the object of welding the representative team into a stronger force, it was decided to adopt a suggestion advanced by Mr Colquhoun (one of the selectors) that 20 players be assembled weekly hereafter for gymnasium practice. Mr Colquhoun stressed the necessity for inculcating esprit de corps among the members, and be urged that they be given every opportunity of meeting together. By so doing, lie added, Manawatu would be paving the way in building up a team which would do honour for the union in succeeding seasons. The acting-secretary reported that the first round of the third grade competitions would terminate on Saturday.—lt was decided to proceed with a further round.
Mr Cope reported that United seniors would be defaulting; to Feilding Old Boys on Saturday, the club having lost four members during the week, three others would not be able to secure leave on the day, while sickness and injuries had made further inroads into their ranks. With a view to providing Feilding with a senior match, it was decided to ask the Old Boys Club to meet Feilding at Johnston Park, the union to allow the team 30s as travelling expenses. Messrs Helleur and Clevely retired from the meeting to call on the Old Boys Club at gymnasium practice. On their return, Mr Clevely intimated that the players present had asked that the matter ho referred to the committee of the club. FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY.
