(From Our Own Correspondent.) POHAXGINA, July 15. The I’ohangina Valley Defence Rifle Club held the last shoot of the 1954-35 season at the Raumai range on Saturday over ranges of 3CO and 500 yards. Mho day was dull with a poor light, making shooting difficult. Rilfm. N. Best won the match on a count back from llflm. A. Balnier. This meeting also dccidod the open championship for the Fitzsimmons Cup and the handicap aggroguto for the J J Roberts trophy, the winner of both being llflm. I. Neill, with Rflm. M. Fitzherbert runner-up in both. The 1935-36 season opens next Saturday with a match against Ashhurst for the I’arkcs Cup. Following are Saturday’s scores .--Rflm. A. Best, hep 5-30-30-65; A. Tho past, season in the* Valley lias evidently boon favourable from the bee farmer’s viewpoint, for at a local apiaiy t.lie honey production was slightly above tlie average, while for New Zealand as a whole only about half a normal season’s output of honey was takon. The holiday season on tho farm is fast drawing lo a close, and tho voices of young calves are proclaiming the dairying season commencing in earnest. An exceptional autumn growth which has hold steadily so far into tho winter has suited dairy stock which in most casus are coming in in good condition. With tho lambing season also drawing nearer, farmers aro hoping for a continuation of the sunny days enjoyed during the last week. , , It has been decided by the authorities to permit the school to remain closed for vet another week, as most of the scholars are suffering from either whooping cough ot severe winter colds.
