OBITUARY.
HR J. H. WALKER. The death of Mr James Herbert Walker, of 7l Rongopai Street, which occurred suddenly on Monday, removed a resident who had made his honie at this centre almost from the beginning of the century. Mr Walker, who was 47 years of age. came to New Zealand as a youth from England, his birthplace being Glossqp, Derbyshire. He had relatives residing in the Manawatu district and for a time was employed in the flaxmilling industry. In his early twenties lie married Miss Ruth Walker, daughter of Mr and Mrs William Walker, of Lower Waikato, and settled in Palmerston North. For a number of years Mr Walker had undertaken work on behalf of the Manawatu Drainage Hoard and he had a thorough knowledge of drainage construction. Tn his younger days Mr Walker actively engaged in several sports, Association football and cricket claiming the major portion of his attention : he was a player of the Association code of no mean order, and he subsequently took a keen interest in the local games. With Mr Walker’s passing the United Evangelical Church lost a loyal adherent, one who was willing to undertake responsibilities to further its work. At the time of his passing he was a member of the choir. Tn addition to Mrs Walker there are left to mourn their loss four daughters, Mesdames M. C. Glover, 18 Matipo Street, J. H. Burnham. Ongarue, G. M. Herdman. 281 Cook Street, and Miss Walker, Rongopai Street. There are also three martied sisters residing in Glossop, England. MR ALEX JAR VIE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) BULLS, July 17. Mr Alex. Jarvie, an old resident of Ohakea. passed away at Levin this week. The late Mr Jarvie was a well-known farmer residing on the Bulls-Sandon Road, and was universally respected for his upright character and straight-forward dealing. He is survived by an aged widow and several grown up children. He was a prominent! Freemason and will be accorded a Masonic j burial at Bulls. ‘ TARANAKI COUNTY CLERK. Per Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, July 17. The death occurred suddenly this morning of Mr Robert Owen Ellis, aged oi>. clerk to the Taranaki County Council. Ho collapsed shortly after reaching his office. Born in Westport, Mr Ellis took up a Taranaki hush farm, hut left it for accountancy. He was appointed county clerk alvout- thirty years ago. A talented musician, he occupied Iris spare time in teaching the violin. He leaves a widow and five sons.
