POINT-TO-POINT.
STEEPLECHASING AT TE MATAI. HUNT CLUB’S FIXTURE. An excellent afternoon's sport was furnished a large crowd of hunting and racing enthusiasts at Te Matai to-day, when the customary point-lo-point steeplechase fixture presented by the Manawatu Hunt Club was held on the property of Mr G. V. Shannon. The weather conditions were favourable, but the going was heavy as a result of the recent rain. The programme consisted of lornevents over country, the jumps including post and rails and brushes, and with a number of we\l-known performers figuring the standard of jumping was very. high. The results of the events decided up to the time of the “Standard” going to press were: KAIRANGA HEAVYWEIGHT. About two miles. Minimum weight 13.0. LA RINKA (Mr R. L. Brown) ... 1 TANEKA (Mr R. C. Blenkhorn) ... 2 NGAWERE (Mr H. S. Jones) ... 3
Taneka went to the front from La llinka, the pair early opening up a gap to the third horse, Ngawere. They entered on the final lap in the same order, Ngawere drifting still further to the rear. One and a half furlongs from home La Rinka ran past the pace-maker and had no trouble in winning by live lengths, with the third horse distanced.
