COURT OF REVIEW

SITTING AT PALMERSTON NORTH. RELIEVING DISTRICT PRESSURE. With the object of relieving the pressure arising out of the accumulation of district applications under the Mortgagors Relief Act, a special sitting of the recently constituted Court of Review is to be held at Palmerston North on Friday. His Honour Mr Justice Johnston will preside, with him being associated Messrs R. S. Chadwick and A. Coleman. The Court of Review will now take over all mortgagors’ relief matters in connection with rural mortgages, removing this jurisdiction from the Magistrate’s and Supreme Courts. All recommendations made by the District Commission will go before the Court of Review for confirmation, and the major body may also hear and determine by consent any ordinary applications to the Commission. There are reported to be 350 applications awaiting attention by the Wellington District Mortgagors’ Commission, though some of these will probably be settled or withdrawn before the date of hearing is reached. Fixtures are now being drawn up for the sitting of the Court of Review, which will be here only for Friday, and it is probable that it may, with the consent of the parties involved, dispose of a few of the most urgent applications not yet dealt with by the Commission. Later the Court will hold another sitting, and with, both bodies functioning it is hoped to overtake the business which ha» accumulated.
