BIRTHS AND DEATHS.
BRITISH STATISTICS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY March 12. The statistical return by the Regis-trar-General in regard to the population of England and Wales for 1934 shows that a definite increase in the birth rate occurred last year for the first time since 1920. The increase was to 14.8 per 1000, compared with the low record of 14.4 set up in 1933. The death rate was .5 per 1000 lower than in 1934, and only .4 above the low record of 1930. Infant mortality at 59 per 1000 live births was 5 per 1000 below the figure for 1933, and the lowest on record.
