OBITUARY.

AIRS AGNES PURCELL. At the age of 75 years, the death ; has taken place at Rotorua of Airs j Agnes Purcell, mother of Air J. B. i Purcell, postmaster at Feilding. By i her demise one of the first white women ( to take up her residence in the thermal I regions passed away. In 1885 Air AV. Iv. 1 Purcell moved with his wife to Rotorua | and their first son, Mr J. B. Purcell, I was tho first white child born at Roto- j nia. The family passed through strenuous times in the district, witnessing the eruption of Alt. Tarewera which U destroyed the pink and white terraces at Lake Rotomahana on June 10. 1886. Airs Purcell, whose husband predeceas- ' ed her in 1923, was a foundation mem- i her of the Rotorua Presbyterian 1 Church, a staunch Red Cross worker i during tho AA'ar a.nd one of the organisers of the AYomen’s Club. She lost : one son at the AVa.r and there survive 1 her three sons and four daughters. 1
