Employment has been made for a small group in the United States, in a district with historic and tragic memories. The road across tho Mohave Desert in California, linking Baker on the west with Shoshone and 1 .one Pine on the east, will have on oiled surface. This is one of the improvements which has minimised the inconveniences incident to travel into the primitive wilderness of Death Valley. To the Argonauts of 1849, without maps or knowledge where water might be found, it was a place of terror.
