A pleasant function took place at the meeting of the AVoodville Girl Guides on Wednesday afternoon, when a presentation was made to Aliss A. Bruere, -who has been lieutenant of the AA 7 oodville Company« for the past eighteen months. In asking Aliss Bruere’s acceptance of a handbag, Captain J. Beattie expressed the Guides’ appreciation of her services as a Guider and officer. The Drama Circle of the AVoodville AVomen’s Institute presented three oneact plays to a large audience in the Parish Hall on Wednesday evening. Those participating in the first production -were Alesdames G. L. Tlartridge and J. Jaine, Alisses AA 7 . Cairns, R. Grinlinton, G. Blatcliford and N. Gilbert. The second play, “Keep Calm,” was a comedy. The players were: Mrs H. AlcNcil, Alisses Cross and J. Kirkpatrick, and Messrs J. Sinclair, F. de~ Alalmanehe and L. Hurley, while Airs Jaine and Misses Cairns, Grinlinton. Blatcliford, Gilbert, AT. Mules and J. Kirkpatrick fulfilled the roles in the “Hat and Stick.” During the intervals, Air H. Brooker’s orchestra played popular numbers while pianoforte items were given by Aliss Avis Arrow. Tbe first match of Iho season was played on the howling green on AVednesday afternoon when a rink from Dannevirke challenged AA'oodvillo for the Gosling Stars, a good game resulting in AA 7 oodville retaining the trophies by a margin of five points. The ranger reported having impounded seven head of stock, which were released on payment of fees. The Aiavor stated that the gas used at the works in May was 19.000 cubic feet, June 20.000. July 20.000, August 13.000. September 2000, and October 3000. The electric motor was installed in August, so that about 15,000 cubic feet were being saved per month. The attention of the board is also to be drawn to AleLean Street south, with the object of effecting improvements. The Alayor informed the council that arrangements had been made for an engineer to.carry out an inspection of the water supply, with the object of ascertaining the feasibility of installing a booster. The cost of the inspection would not he great. _
