LINER MORRO CASTLE.
LOSS OF 114 LIVES
FACTORS IN DISASTER
Received November 8, 9.15 a.m. WASHINGTON, Nov. 7
The death of 84 passengers and 30 members of the crew of the liner Morro Castle which was burned at sea on September 8 was attributed to-day by the United States Steamboat Inspection Service to several factors. These comprised the rapid spread of the fire, delay in giving the fire alarm, ineffectiveness of the fire alarm system, failure to mark the exits properly, and delay of the officers in sending out the S.O.S. message.
