(From Our Own Correspondent.) ASIIIIURST, Sept. 11. The monthly meeting of the Alcthodis Ladies’ Guild was held on Friday, Airs Foston being in the chair. After the business had been dealt witli a social hour was spent, and the following items were much enjoyed.—Vocal duet, Mesdames W. N. Brewer and C. Thomson; recitation, Airs Foston; vocal solo, Airs Peck; duet, Alesdames 11. Fenwick and H. Woodroofo; reading, Airs Shaw; recitation, Rev. Air Foston. A competition arranged by Mrs Flowers was won by Airs Woodroofo. Afternoon tea was served by the hostess Airs J. Flowers. Another successful card social in aid of funds for the proposed new hall was held on Monday evening and was well attended. The ladies’ prize was won by Miss A. Foote, and the men’s by Mr O. Kerrigan, consolation awards going to Airs Nicholls and Mr R. Doreen.

The weekly shoot of the Ashhurst Defence Riflo Club was held on Saturday, the day being fine with a strong rear wind which on occasions changed from left to right in a flash, resulting in misses atthe 600 yard range, the scores at this range being well below the usual standard. Tho ranges fired were 300 and 600 yards, the scores being;—Roy Romley, 31 —26 —4 —6l; Ken. Romley, 31 —27 —3 —61; D. AlcCrae, 27—20—12—59; J. Searle, 26-27 5—58; W. G. Romley, 26—22—9—57; S. J. 8r00kie,2223 —22—10—55; R. A. Jones, 29—24—2—55; G. Romley, 22—16—16—34; C. Turner, 27 —19—17—53 ; C. Thomson, 24—21—7—52. Next Saturday the club will be shooting a teams match, the members being divided into Frontiermen’s team, Broadlands team, and a team of the Rest. Broadlands will bo represented by Roy Romley, D. AlcCrac, C. Ralph, N. AlcKenzie, O'. Turner, and W. G. Romley (captain); reserve, G. Romley. The Rest will be represented by C. Dunham, W. Brewer, S. J. Brookie, C. Romley, A. Davis, and F. A. Dunstall (captain); reserve, F. Dunham. All members able to attend are asked to do so as the teams will bo enlarged if sufficient members are available. Members are requested to have their open sights on rifles, shooting to commence at 1.15 sharp; anyone unable to attend is asked to notify Air C. Turner as soon as possible.
