(From Our Own Correspondent.) apeti, Sept. io. There was a large attendance at tho installation of officers at the Oddfellows’ Hall. The D.G.AI., Bro. T. Fowells was absent through illness. Bro. N. Viles P.G. was installing master, and presided over the gathering. The following officers wore installed in the respective chairs;—Bro. C. AloKay, N.G.; Bro. H. Vilcs, V.G.; Bro. F. Munro, E.S.; Bro T. Nix junr, I.P.N.G. At the conclusion of the installation, supper was served and the remainder of the evening was occupied with dancing. Mrs J. Kearney supplied the music. Air R. Alartin, of Pohonui, has been staying with his mother, Airs AI. E. Alartin. Miss Haswell, of Waipukurau, is the guest of her aunt, Airs J. F. Jensen. Air T K. AlcLean has returned from a visit to Wellington. Air and Mrs G. Buckman have returned to Feilding after a few days spent with Air and Airs C. Buckman. Tho Apiti ping pong team visited Table Flat for a return match last week and after interesting play Table Flat emerged the winners. 18 games. There was a record attendance >at the fourth birthday of the Apiti Women’s Institute. Airs C. AI. Stanley presided and extended a welcome to the large gathering of members and friends from neighbouring institutes. Greetings were received from Pohangina, Rangiwahia and Kimbolfon institutes. Airs W. Duncan was elected delegate to attend the half yearly council meeting’ at Levin. Aliss A. Crawford, who organised the Apiti AVomen’s Institute, was the speaker for tho afternoon and her subject was “The Adventures of a Voluntary Organiser.” Aliss Crawford held the interest of her audience with her bright accounts of adventures in England and New Zealand. The Dominion loan collection of handcrafts was on exhibition, and was a centre of interest. A bright and entertaining programme was presented. An animal competition was won by Aliss D. Prince, while Aliss K. Strahan won the musical parcel. Tho hostesses. Alesdames L. Gould, E. Aliller, J. Pettigrew, A. Dobson Aliss" Pettigrew, served afternoon tea. The* tables were, daintily decorated with daffodils and violets. The birthday cake, with its four candles, was made by Airs E. Munro and iced by Airs lv. Stone. Aliss Crawford cut tho cake after the candles had been lit by Airs H. Strahan and extinguished by Aliss Peggy Swift. There was a large attendance to witness tho final Rugby game between Apiti and Waituna for the Beard Cup on Saturday. The day was fine, with only a slight breeze, but the ground was a trifle hard. The final score was 19 —6 in favour of Apiti. Air N. Short was the referee. This game concludes tho competitions in the Oroua Subunion and Apiti have had a most successful season as they now hold tho Challenge Cup, Scvcn-asjde Cup and Beard Cup.
