BADMINTON.
PALMERSTON NORTH CLUB. The Palmerston North Badminton Club commenced the season’s play last night, there being a good attendance at the Showgrounds, where the courts are situated. The president of the club, Mr W. B. Tennent, welcomed members and visitors and expressed the view that such a large attendance on a wet night augured well for the coming season. He added that the secretary had said that the membership was larger than that for the previous year, despite the fact that another club had been formed in the city. The game should prosper if the clubs worked together and the presence of another should increase' interest in the game. Mr Tennent then hit the first shuttle over the net. Games were conducted under the management of the secretary (Mr J. T. McDonald) and supper was served by tbe ladies at the conclusion of play. The officers for the ensuing year for the club are as follow: —President,, Mr W. B. Tennent; vice-presidents, Dr. K. Dean and Mr J. Ivissling; secretary, Mr J. T. McDonald; committee, Mrs Dean, Misses I. Nettlefold, R. Christian, J. McDonald and Mr W. Fox.
