MANAWATU COUNTY FINANCES

SATISFACTORY RATE COLLECTION. RIDING ACCOUNTS ABOLISHED. What was termed a decidedly satisfactory financial position was revealed in a report made to the Manawatu Countv Council, yesterday, by the treasurer. (Mr A. K. Drew), who placed before the council a table showing the rate collections in each riding for the rear and the percentages of collection as compared with the previous year. 6d. In moving that the report be adopted, the chairman (Cr. W. E. Barber) said the financial position was very satisfactory, and the rate collections had been decidedly improved. Regarding the collection of the rate arrears, the county clerk, in reply to a question, stated that although much of the money would be got in the council would have to bide its time in several cases. The statement of rates presented, Mr Drew concluded, would be the last the council would receive as relating to the individual ridings of the council, which would in future be worked as a corporate body. The report was adopted.
