STEADY RETURN
BRITAIN’S INDUSTRIAL RE- * COVERY. SHEFFIELD FACTORIES BUSY. OVERSEAS ORDERS INCREASE. (United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received October 30, 8.10 a.m. LONDON, Oct. 29. The steady improvement in Britain’s industrial situation is continuing and evidence of increasing activity in the leading trades comes from areas all over the country. It was reported to-day that eleven basic steel plants in Sheffield were now fully employed and that the production exceeds last year by nearly 1,000 tons daily, while the cutlery orders 'average 45 per cent, heavier than last year. Though the Admiralty has not announced its new building programme, the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce predicts an expansion of the Navy. Rolling mills are working full time, while the gun and shell factories are also fully occupied. Birmingham jewellery manufacturers are also working full time and skilled craftsmen are fully employed. The United Kingdom export of wool products increased by 48 per cent, in September as compared with a year before. The demand for steel products is by no means confined to the Home market and orders from abroad have shown an encouraging increase.
