INCIDENT ON WARSHIP.
MINISTERIAL OBSERVATION. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Oct. 28. Regarding the incident on H.M.S. Diomede on Labour Day when certain New Zealand ratings sang the Red Flag the Minister of Defence (Hon. J. G. Cobbe) stated to-day that he had been in communication with the Commodore concerning the published reports and had ascertained that the matter was quite trivial, such as would not have been reported but for the published statements. The Minister deplored the wrong impression which may have been created by the undue prominence given to so small an incident.
