SEVEN YEARS’ SILENCE.
PARSEE HERMIT’S MISSION. Sri Maher Baba, a Parsee hermit whom his followers regard as a new Messiah and who has not spoken a word for seven years, has postponed for another year his great message which, he declares, will change the whole course of human affairs. Baba, who is bearded and with flowing hair, has an impressive personality, enabling him to spellbound thousands of his followers of all races. . . . At present he is secretly visiting England, but originally intended going to Cliicaga to break liis silence by addressing a religious congress. He now announces its postponement “at the wish of My Lord.” A Sunday Sun representative, seeking an audience at Baba’s residence, a spacious flat at Maida Vale, found 'him garbed in white pyjamas and a long Indian robe. He was surrounded by his disciples, including a younger brother, who is also his secretary, and who alone understands Baba’s method of writing shorthand on a slate, which he does at great speed, in order to convey his talks to his disciples. Baba, by that means, declared: “I have the Lord’s message to give to humanity. It has world-wide significance and is not meant for any particular caste, race, or religion. It is a synthesis of all religions, particularly the Hindu philosophy, based on selfrealisation in an absolutely original and unique manner. Humanity’s great need to-day is a spiritual message. I am glad the Lord has made me His instrument.”
