CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH.

Mr Andrew Johnston, the blind soldier evangelist of the Bible Training Institute, Auckland, commenced his Gospel campaign in the Emmanuel Congregational Church, Broadway, yesterday, when, in spite of the wintry conditions, good congregations assembled at both services. In the morning the preacher spoke on “The Man With a Growing Vision,” basing his remarks on the prayer of Jabez, 1 Chron., 4.T0. Mr Johnston had some plain things to say about true prayer and passion for God, also about enlarging our coast in spiritual things ancl being kept from evil. In the evening tile -subject was, “The Spectators,” or “The Groups Around the Cross.” After giving a vivid picture of the Cross and the Crucifixion, the speaker pointed out how there were groups around the Cross, the multitude who were indifferent, the soldiers who gambled for His cloths, the Chief Priest and Scribes who were rebellious and were showing open and triumphant hatred, the praying thief who said, “Lord remember mo when Thou comest into Thy Kingdom,” and last of all the group of friends of Christ, that group close in by the Cross. Ihe preacher pointed out how the Cross stood in the centre to-day, and how these same groups still gather around it, the group of those who are indifferent, of those who are rebellious, of those who realise their lost condition and are praying; of those who are the friends of Christ. The preacher brought his address to a close by asking his hearers the powerful and searching question, “To what group do you belong?” The meetings will be continued each night this week at 7.30.
