PERSONAL.
Alatene Mataki, a well-known member of the Maori race, passed away on Sunday. He was an authority on early Maori tradition and was a descendant of the AVhanganui and Ngati Kauwhata tribes and leader of the Hinepara, which is a sub-tribe to tho Kauwhata tribe. At various places throughout the AA’ellington province lie had delivered stirring speeches and lie was also known for his quiet and likeable nature. He leaves a widow and four children who are Mrs Simmonds. Amy, George and Hoki Mataki.
