HOROWHENUA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, Sept. 23. Mr Ashton Cootcs, who has been ten weeks in the Palmerston North Hospital, returned to his homo at Otaki yesterday. The death occurred at Palmerston North yesterday of Elsio, daughter of Mr A. IF. Hill, of Otaki. Tho deceased, who was taker, to the hospital on Friday, was operated on yesterday but failed to rally. Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved relatives. The wedding took place, on Friday afternoon, at the Otaki Presbyterian Church, of Mr W. William Lithgow, brother of Mrs Mcßcth, of Otaki, and Miss Schofield, of Auckland. The wedding, which was of a quiet nature, was solemnised by the Rev. W. 11. Carroll. The final of the men’s golf championship was played on the Otaki links at tho week-end and was won by J. Wintcrburn, last year’s u inner, who easily defeated D. D’Ath. Paddy’s Market, held - on Saturday to raise funds for the Catholic Church, proved very successful, and the various stalls were well patronised. . The stallholders worked splendidly, and as a result of their efforts a substantial sum of money was raised.
