MAGISTRATE PUZZLED
3.15 P.M. EDITION
AGE OF YOUNG WOMEN. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 26. The Magistrate (Mr E. D. Mosley) was baffled this morning when called on to judge the age of three young women and to decide whether or not they were under 21. He thought one might be 21, but as for the others “It is exceedingly difficult at first glance to tell the age of women nowadays.” _ . Because of this doubt he dismissed a charge of selling liquor to persons under'2l which was preferred against Thomas Aspell. licensee of the Eastern Hotel. Asoell, -however, pleaded guilty to selling liquor after hours and was fined £3 and costs. The police said the offence occurred on Sunday, September 17. The girls were in the company of tlireo sailors of the cruiser Canberra and all were quite sober when they left in a taxi for the Port Hills. 1 When this taxi was involved in an accident later in the evening the party came under the notice of the police.
