RANGITIKEI.

MARTON, Sept. 23. On Friday afternoon the railway staff at Marton Junction met to bid farewell to one of its foremen, Mr C. TV. B Callander. who has been appointed to Palmerston North. Mr J. White, stationmaster, spoke of the great respect and esteem in which Mr Callander was held by ail members. During his stay he had made many friends and they would be very sorry to lose him. On behalf of the Marton Junction staff Mr White presented Mr Callander with a fountain pen and propelling pencil suitably inscribed. Mr H. Fitzpatrick, coaching foreman, endorsed Mr White's remarks. Members representing the clerical, shunting, platform and train examiners staffs also spoke and wished Mr Callander every success. Mr Callander, in responding, said he was greatly surprised by tho gift. He had enjoyed his stay in Marton and regretted leaving the staff. There was a fair attendance ;ii. ‘ last evening’s meeting of the M.U., 1.0.0. F. Royal Marton Lodge, which was presided over by Bro. J. O’Shaughnessy, N.G. Reports showed that one member was on the sick list, also one visiting member, both making good progress. One new member was proposed. Bro. G. H. Denbow, who has returned to Marton, was present and gave an interesting account of visits paid to other lodges. The lodge learned with regret of the serious illness of Bro. 11. Archibald’s father, and a motion of sympathy was recorded. After the business was transacted the lodge closed, and an hour was spent in dancing.
