PAINFUL SCENE.
MOTHER AND ACCUSED DAUGHTER. “Violette, kill yourself,” bitterly cried Violette Noziere’s frail mother, when the girl, who is charged with having poisoned her father, confronted her in hospital in Paris. Violette fainted. When she recovered, she begged forgiveness, but her mother retorted: “Only when sentence is pronounced and you are dead! What have you said to your father ? His memory is sacred, and I shall defend him.” The Magistrate, counsel and clerks were all in tears. It was a painful scene. The allusion to her father relates to Violette’s charge that he had led her a hard life.
