BULLS.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) BULLS, Sept. 22. A meeting of the Bulls centre of the New Zealand Legion was held on Wednesday evening, Colonel Powlcs presiding over a good attendance. Apologies were received from Messrs J. E. Walker and J. C Wilson. For the benefit of a number wiio were unable to attend Major-General Sir A. Russell’s public meeting, the chairman briefly outlined the aims and objects of the legion was explained by Sir A. Russell. Colonel Powlcs said that the chief object of the legion was to get men of the best brains into Parliament; men broad-minded and strong-minded enough to vote for what they considered best for the country The legion aimed at an elective Cabinet also. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Leader, Colonel Powles; deputy-leader, Mr Q. O. Wilson; secretary and treasurer, Mr R. Mackay; permanent committee, members of tho provisional committee and those present. A number of new members were enrolled, and ways and means wore discusesd of obtaining public interest, and of increasing the membership of the centre. Mr Frank Ormond, of Hawke’s Bay, is the guest of Mr and Mrs G. Hamish Wilson, “Burleigh,” Bulls. The Bulls Miniature Rifle Club secured the MclCclvio Cup from Longburn on Thursday night, the scores being 1089— 1085. Bulls were lucky to win, one member, putting a shot on tho wrong target on the first range, but a fine 549 on the second range turned almost certain defeat into victory.
