DAFFODIL DAY.
TECHNICAL SCHOOL EFFORT. SUM OF £47 RAISED. A large measure of success attended the anuual Daffodil Day effort by the staff and pupils of the Palmerston North Technical School, on Saturday. Beautiful spring flowers had been brought in for sale by pupils from a wide area, and they found ready purchasers, and canvassers in the residential areas encountered many evidences of the goodwill extended the school, in some instances where the financial position of the householder did not permit of a contribution being made, liowers were offered instead, while others possessing beautiful gardens themselves purchased flowers so as to assist the school. The drive for funds was productive of £45 14s on the day, but subsequent amounts have brought the sum up to £47 11s lOd A weight guessing competition was productive of a surprising result, no fewer than five people estimating the correct weight of filbs 2oz. The successful entrants were Miss V. MacMillan, Miss J Itowntree, Miss Kelly, Mrs F. Hardy and Mr P. S. Larcomb. In addition, there were four others whose hazard was within half an ounce of the correct weight. The activities were brought to a fitting close by the holding of a dance in the school assembly hall, when a happy time was spent by. past and present pupils and friends. At a suitable juncture, Mr G. G. Hancox, director of the school, extended thanks to the legion of workers who had assisted towards making the day such a successful one. He also mentioned that it was intended to make the dance, like the flower day, an annual event.
