PERSONAL.
Rev. James Adams, formerly vicar of Olcato, Taranaki, has been appointed vicar of St. George’s Church, Jxiugsland, Auckland. Mr Cholmondeley Darvall was yesterday appointed general manager of the Commercial Banking Company of Sydney, Limited, in succession to the late Mr J. R. Dryhurst. Mr Kenneth B. Garland, who has been manager of the Ashburton branch of Dalgety and Co., Ltd., for the last six years, has been advised of his transfer on promotion to the position of auctioneer of the Palmerston North branch of the company, and will leave Ashburton at the end of this month. Hon. R. Masters, Minister of Education, was accorded a very enthusiastic welcome when he returned to Stratford last evening after attending the World Economic Conference. A short ceremony, conducted at the railway station, enabled several speakers to pay tribute to the Minister’s work and at the conclusion he received another ovation. Rev. R. S. Johnson, lately Home Mission supply at Gisborne, and formerly of the Dunedin Y.M.C.A., has arrived to assume the control of the Sanson-Rongotea Methodist Church Circuit, consequent upon the recent passing of Rev. P. J. Cossuni. Mr Johnson will retain liis position .until the Conference appoints a superintendent early next year. At Wellington, on Wednesday last, the death occurred with tragic suddenness of Mr Edward Beckman, eldest son of the late Mr and Mrs Beckman, Rongotea. Mr Beckman was of a retiring disposition and Ids kindly and generous nature won Idm many friends whose sympathy is extended to his young daughter who is left to mourn his passing. His wife (nee Miss Scheldt, of Bunnythorpe) predeceased him some years ago.
