WOODVILLE.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) WOOD VfLLF, Sept. 23. A very pleasant little daneo in aid of the Anglican Church was held in the Parish Hall, last evening, there being a good attendance. Music was provided by an orchestra, and Rev. Mr Davidson fulfilled the duties of M.C. A dainty supper was provided by the ladies. The growing interest which is being lakon in the Scouts and Cubs was very evident, last evening, when a crowd of over 200 attended the parents’ evening in the Drill Hall. The first part of the programme commenced with tho usual fall-in and inspection by the scoutmaster. This was followed by the “Grand Howl” and the jungle dance by the cubs. Temporary warrants were presented by tho chairman, Mr Pickering, to assistant-scoutmasters R. Forbes and (J. Wright. A successful copper trail was held to aid the funds and articles not exceeding 2s in valuo, made by scouts, were auctioned. An excellent entertainment by tho scouts consisted of the following programme: Troop song, “Hitch Your Waggon to a Sunbeam”; recitation, ArUmr Carr; comedy sketch, “Laurel and Hardy”; recitation, R. Boyd; song, Rex McNeil; recitation, Bill Boyd; pianoforte solo, George Fairly; recitation, John Jones; pianoforte solo, Roy Anderson; quintette, “A Shanty in Old Shanty Town”; mouth organ solo, J. Birss and quintette; play, “A Generous Impulse.” The chairman, Mr Pickering, spoke in tho highest terms of Scoutmaster BurrForeman and Lady Cubmistress Burr-Fore-man, and mentioned that before they had taken office the troops consisted of 26 scouts and now there were 45 scouts and 18 cubs. Supper was provided by the committee and parents. The evening concluded with a dance, Mr E. Pickering acting as M.C., and extras being played by the scouts.
