PAHIATUA.

PAHIATUA, Sept. 22. The death occurred, yesterday afternoon, of an old Pahiatua identity, a resident of 45 years’ standing, Mr Harry Pearcey. He was aged 65 years. Born at Southampton, England, at the age of five years he sailed with his parents and seven brothers, landing in Wellington in 1873. Fourteen years later his eldest brother George removed to the Bush distriot and the deocas ed followed a year afterwards. Another brother, Mr Charles Pearcey. also eaino to Pahiatua and he and the deceased were contracting togethor for years while thenfather engaged in a carrying business hero. When the latter died, some 33 years ago, the late Mr Harry Pearcey took over his father’s carrying business which he hail carried on ever since, being partnered by his brother Charles during the last 25 years. The deceased, who was single, is survived by two brothers, Messrs Alfred and Charles Pearcey, both of Pahiatua, and one sister, Mrs A. Benge (Masterton). The monthly meeting of the Fire Brigade was held this week, Superintendent W. H. Lawry being in the chair. The secretary was instructed to write to Dr H. Paterson thanking him for a donation. Thanks were also conveyed to Messrs Stokes Bros, for a donation. Mr D. Ewen was elected an honorary member, and messenger M. Cosford as an active fireman. It was decided to include late Fireman E Collins’s name on the life members’ list. Mr G. Coster, of the Power Board staff, Eketahuna, who was severely injured in an accident, is likely to be an inmate of the Masterton Hospital for some months.
