In the News of the World golf tournament, Alliss, in the presence of 2000 spectators was dominant in all his delicate shots and decisively beat Cotton and Whitcombe. The semi-finals were played in a downpour. In the fourth round E. Whitcombe beat Hodson 4 and 2; Alliss beat Cotton 4 and 3; Compston beat Peters 5 and 4; Seymour beat Green at the 19th. In the semi-finals Alliss beat Whitcombe 4 and 3 and Seymour beat Compston 2 and 1. Hodson surprisingly defeated Padgham in the earlier play of the tournament.
