EXCHANGE AND MEAT EXPORT. POLICY POINTS INVOLVED. (By Telegraph—Sphcial to Standard.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 22. Private members have given indications to deal with important policy points in Bills which they propose to introduce in the House of Representatives this session. Mr W. A. Veitch (Wanganui), though sitting on the Coalition benches, will introduce a measure entitled the Banks Indemnity Exchange Repeal Bill. Its object is to dispose of the Government’s obligation to indemnify the banks in respect of any surplus credits purchased abroad under the terms of the high pegged exchange, and leaving the fixing of the ra.te with the banks as formerly prevailed. It will serve the purpose of raising the issue, but is regardad as having no chance of success. Mr R. Semple, from the Labour benches, raised the same point in a lengthy question which opened with a series of declarations regarding the disadvantages of the high exchange. Mr Speaker had to interrupt him to inquire where was the question. “At the tail end,’’.replied Air Semple, who demanded that the Government initiate legislation to reduce tlio high exchange rate. Mr W. J. Poison (Stratford) has given notice to introduce the Meat Export Control Amendment Bill, which aims at giving farmers desiring to export their own meat the right to liavq it handled in proprietary works in their own dstrict, subject to reasonable notice and regulation by the Meat Board. The Gaming Amendment Bill, which Air E. F. Healy (Wairau) intends to introduce, received a big push off immediately petitions were received today, a very large number in its favour being tabled by members from all parts of the Dominion, some containing 700 Q signatures.
