« A MANAWATU MEMBER’S QUESTION' RATING OF DRAINAGE BOARDS, (By Telegraph—Special to Standard.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 22. Mr J. Linklater (Manawatu) has tabled a question in the House of Re~ preservatives as to whether the Mmister of Internal Affairs will, in accordance with a request by the Dominion Drainage Boards Conference, introduce an amendment to the Drainage Boards Act this session giving the option to these boards to rate on either a valuation or an acreage basis. RELIEF ALLOCATIONS. One aspect of unemployment relief that was strongly stressed in members’ questions in the House to-day was the disparity between allocations for suburban and rural areas, Mr A. E. Ansell asking that they be revised to secure uniformity of treatment as between cities and other districts. Ho stated that in many rural areas the average earnings of workers with a wife and two dependent children did not exceed 15s weekly. Mr A. M. Samuel, raising the same point, described the system as unfair discrimination between town and country.
