TENNIS AT LOS ANGELES.

Received September 20, 1.50 p.m. LOS ANGELES, Sept. 19. In the Pacific south-west lawn tennis tourney to-day, results in the men’s singles were : J. Tidball (California) beat Quist (Australia), 6—4, 6—2. Turnbull (Australia) beat C. Otis (Pasadena), 6—-3, 4—6, 6—3. Van Ryn (United States) beat Wilde (England), 6—4, 6—l. Stocffen (United States) beat Lee (England) B—lo, S —6, 6—o. Quist was unable to handle Tidball’s fast service and counting shots to the baseline, and was eliminated in straight sets. Turnbull had a difficult time defeating Otis in their three sets. After playing on fairly even terms in the first two sets, the Australian continued to play steadily while his opponent faltered in the third set.

Quist and Turnbull drew a bye for the men’s doubles which started today.
