Mr Mansford was in every way worthy of being a Lord Mayor to which position the speaker had erroneously exalted him in a recent address.

Tire Mayor, in officially opening the sale, stated that botli Mrs Mansford and himself had a very warm regard for the Church wherein they had spent some happy years. He was particularly gratified at the progress which it liad made. It was said that the country was now round the corner, but it was a dangerous period. This was an age of planning for the future and a glorious opportunity offered for churches of all denominations and creeds to formulate a plan for posterity and improve the outlook for youth. The Mayor congratulated the guild on their continued work on behalf of St. Peter’s Church and trusted that they would have a busy afternoon in disposing of their wares. The Mayor was accorded a resolution of thanks on the motion of Mr H. S. Porteous.
