FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.

ACORN LODGE, U.A.O.D

The usual fortnightly meeting of the above lodge was held on Friday night in the Coronation Hall, Terrace End. A.D. Bro. Richardson presided over a good attendance of members. Visitors were present from Lind, Oroua and Hawera Lodges. Before commencing the usual business, the A.D. made sympathetic reference to the death of Bro. H. PJensen. Arrangements were made to supply six pall-bearers for the funeral and members were asked to show their last respects by attending the funeral on Sunday from the Lutheran Church. The sick visitors reported on visits to sick members. One new member was admitted to the order. The delegates to various Friendly Society organisations made reports. It was pleasing to note Bro. G. Gulliver’s presence in the lodge and we hope to see more of him now that lie is back in town. The mocassin competition was finalised, Mrs Sherriffs being the winner. To all those who made this competition a success appreciation was extended. After lodge closed, play-reading was indulged in, the play being, “The Stepmother,” by A. A. Milne. The characters were:—“Lady Pembury M. P. Osman; “A Stranger,” V. A. Christensen; “Perkins” and “Sir John Pembury,” A. T. Bedingfield. Stage direction was in the hands of Miss Mary Christensen. This was the lodge’s initial entry into the realms of drama and it is intended to provide a play shortly with a cast of members from all Druids Lodges in the district.
