For the final gallops for the Takapuna Club’s meeting ideal conditions prevailed at Ellerslie this morning when the course proper, with the poles 20ft out, the closest they have ever been to the inside rails, the No. 1 grass and the tan tracks were in use.

The best efforts of the morning were recorded by Ruling King and Chief Cook, both of whom are engaged at Takapuna on Saturday. On the course proper Ruling King was the first to appear, being allotted half a mile which he completed in 50 3-ssecs. He carried a good weight and it was a first-class gallop. Chief Cook, Psychologist and Schizanthus jumped away together at the five furlongs post, and after running two furlongs in 25 secs, recorded 1.3 1-5 for the full distance. Schizanthus, who had much the best of the weights, was in front throughout, but Chief Cook was going nicely, and Psychologist was also finishing on. On the No. 1 grass track, Brampton and Angis ran home from the half mile post in 53 l-ssecs.,. the former finishing in front. Neil traversed a round in 2.3 2-5, without doing his best at any part. Karangapai showed his customary speed over half a mile, running the distance in 48 4-ssecs. He carried a solid weight and did his work impressively.

At Takanini the track was in excellent order when all the fast galloping was done on the inside grass, the poles being 25 feet out. * Principal and Imperial Prince were companions over a mile, Principal finishing a head in front in 1.48.

Tironui, a Magpie gelding, who has been working for some time, and has just been named, sprinted five furlongs in 1.3 1-5.

Greek Gold and Gold Pocket jumped off to go half a mile, but after going two furlongs something went wrong with the gear of Gold Pocket, who was then pulled up, and Greek Gold went on to run the half mile in 52secs.

After getting slightly the worst of the start, King Mestor was soon three lenghs in front of Soloman and beat the latter easily over half a mile in 50 3-ssecs. Lord Willonyx was half a length in front of Chief Joy, with Marmorate two lengths away, after galloping five furlongs in 1.4 2-5. WIN AND PLACE BETTING. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Jan. 26. The DUnedin Jockey Club has decided to introduce the win and place betting on the inside enclosure and place betting only on the outside totalisator.
