OROUA DOWNS.
(From Our Own Correspondent)
OROUA DOWNS, Jan. 24. The usual fortnightly meeting of the Sports Club was held in the hall on Tuesday evening when 19 members wero present. Mr J, Cameron was in the chair. Although the club had decided at a previous meeting to hold the sports on March 8 it has been found that this date is now unavailable owing to the Bulls Racing Club holding its annual meeting on March 8. The date now arranged for the sports is March 1.- Mr Watson, of Levin, has accepted the position of starter for the athletic events. During the meeting the last year’s programme was discussed and several minor alterations wero made in the interest of competitors. Many suggestions wero put forward regarding the baby show, and in reply to the stewards’ complaints about the age limit tho matter was left in the hands of Mr D. Funnell who will draw up a suitable programme and place it before tho meeting in a fortnight's time. It was also arranged that competitors in all events must pay at the gate and receive a refund of their admission when making their first entry for any event. A rumour that some competitors in weight limit jumping competitions have not been carrying their full weight over the jumps was put before the meeting and it was arranged to compel the placed riders to “weigh-in” at tho conclusion of the event; also that a steward be placed in a suitable position to watch all competitors go round the “ring.” The institute have arranged to hold a picnic in the Sportsground _on i-riday next. The picnic will be typical of Oroua Downs.
