DAMAGES AWARDED

SEQUEL TO SALE OF HOTEL. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 11. Damages of £238" were awarded by a jury in the Supreme Court to-day to an hotelkeeper, .John Daniel Henry McCurdy, against Ballin Brothers, wine and spirit merchants, in respect of the purchase by the plaintiff McCurdy of the Pier Hotel, Kaiapoi. Plaintiff alleged that ho had been induced to buy the hotel on representations concerning the business done in tlie hotel made by Ballin Brothers and their agents, and that defendants had made the representations knowing them to be untrue or made them recklessly without regard to whether they were true or not.

The jury found that the representations had been made recklessly and without regard to the question of their truth or otherwise.

Both counsel moved for judgment on the findings. His Honour reserved question.
