CHARGES OF THEFT.
Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 11. Charges of theft of some moneys granted from the Alnvor’s fund for tho relief of dependants of men imprisoned following tiie tramway strike disturbances and of forgery of receipts lor tho amounts misappropriated were laid against Herbert Edwin Barnsley in the Christchurch Police Court today.
jJarnsley, it was alleged, had been given a sum of 27s for distribution and had failed to account for 21s. He had, it was alleged, forged receipts from persons who should have received the money. He was also charged with misappropriation of another amount, 9s. Accused pleaded not guilty to all the charges and was committed to ’the Supreme Court for trial on the forgery charges. On the summary charges of theft he was convicted, sentence being deferred. Bail was allowed of £IOO. with one surety of £IOO.
