FAST FLIGHT
AUCKLAND TO WELLINGTON. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Sept. 27 ; A particularly fast flight to Wellington and back was made to-day by Flight-Lieutenant D. M. Allan, instructor to the Auckland Aero Club, in the club’s Puss Moth machine. The occasion was the first on which a return trip between Auckland and Wellington has been made in one day. The monoplane was chartered by one of the club’s pupil’s, Mr V. Salek, of Auckland, who found it necessary to visit Wellington urgently. The machine took off from Mangere aerodrome a.t 9.5 a.m. and made an excellent trip to Wellington, landing at Rongotni aerodrome at 11.55 a.m. after a non-stop trip of only 2 hours 50 minutes for the journey of over 300 miles. Mr Salek decided to remain in Wellington and Flight-Lieutenant Alian took off alone on the return journey at 2 p.m. Flying north, he encountered head winds, and although the machine was not impeded by the passenger’s weight, the flight occupied 3 hours 25 minutes. Flight-Lieutenant Allan landed at Mangere at 5.25 p.m.
